Excellence in East AsiaSEAS is one of the largest institutions in Europe teaching and researching about East Asia. We have more than 400 students on our various programmes.
Excellence in Teaching and ResearchOur excellence is widely acknowledged. In the 2007 National Student Survey SEAS was ranked - by students themselves - first in six out of seven categories amongst a range of Asian Studies departments in the UK. |

In collaboration with our colleagues at the University of Leeds, we have established the White Rose East Asia Centre, which provides world class research and advanced research training in Japanese and Chinese studies.
CoursesWe offer a broad range of three and four-year degrees at undergraduate level, as well as eight taught postgraduate courses.
At SEAS we take an inter-disciplinary approach to studying China, Japan and Korea. In addition to focusing on contemporary East Asia, we place a strong emphasis on the acquisition of advanced language skills.
ResearchThe School has grown steadily into one of the most distinguished departments of its kind. We have a vibrant research culture with a strong focus on four research clusters, and we welcome proposals from prospective PhD students.
